HorizonBQ-440

Horizon BQ-440: Solutions for glue application

The Horizon BQ-440 perfect binder is a more cost-effective option compared to its big brother, the Horizon BQ-470. This device offers a good solution for small to medium print runs, but even the best machines can face technical challenges. An occasional issue that users of the BQ-440 experience is uneven glue application—a key element for high-quality bookbinding.

Uneven glue application can lead to a range of problems, including loose pages or a weak binding, which affects the overall quality of the books. Fortunately, this issue can be resolved through some simple steps. The key lies in the correct adjustment and maintenance of the glue rollers. Regular checking and adjusting of the rollers ensure that the glue is evenly applied to the spine of the book. This guarantees a strong and lasting binding.

Another important component is the regular cleaning and maintenance of the device. Glue residue and deposits can affect the function of the rollers and lead to uneven application. Cleaning the glue rollers and the glue area helps to maintain the optimal functioning of the BQ-440. Additionally, checking the glue quality on different types of paper and thicknesses can be helpful, as adjustments may be needed to achieve consistent results.

Besides technical maintenance, it is also important to understand the operation and settings of the machine. The Horizon BQ-440 offers user-friendly interfaces and adjustment options, allowing for precise customization to the specific requirements of your bookbinding project. Regular practice with the machine can help to improve the understanding and skills of the operators.

In summary, the Horizon BQ-440 provides a good solution for professional bookbindings. With proper care, regular maintenance, and knowledgeable operation, your BQ-440 remains an indispensable tool in your print shop, ensuring high-quality, durable bookbindings.

SPF-200A

HORIZON booklet maker SPF-200A/L – Error 1170

Your HORIZON booklet maker SPF-200A/L starts giving the error message 1170, the stitching motor operations error.

When this error is displayed it is time to check the chain that is between the main shaft and the motor. At times, the chain loosens up and is responsible for this error message.

It is this chain that drives the clinchers and stitching head and raises the stitching head to the desired position.

Solution:

To overcome this problem, the best way is to tighten the chain. How will you do that? Well, it is pretty simple.

All you need to do is loosen the two screws on the sides of the plate that holds the motor. Move the motor to the side and you can easily tighten the chain properly.

HORIZON SPF-11

With my HORIZON SPF-11 the sword did not release

But the sword can be released by hand.

Solution: The sensor on the side of the conveyor belt was dirty. After cleaning, the paper was detected again.

Otherwise the sensor “thinks” that the paper just runs in and therefore does not release.

Note: this range is the same for the following machines: HORIZON SPF-10, SPF-10-ll and SPF-11

If the sensor is defective, you can order a new one via the HORIZON webshop.

If you have another problem where you need support, please contact us, we will be happy to help you!

HORIZON SPF

Problem with HORIZON SPF Error 130

I have a problem with HORIZON SPF. It keeps bringing error 130, but the cause is unclear. No paper jam or similar.

Solution:

The receiver of the sensor was dirty and therefore showed paper jam in the infeed area although everything was ok.

Simply clean the receiver underneath the sensor and the error will be corrected.

Note: this area is the same for the following machines: HORIZON SPF-10, SPF-10-ll and SPF-11

If the sensor is defective, you can order a new one via the HORIZON webshop.

If you have another problem where you need support, please contact us, we will be happy to help you!

spare part Horizon MAC-8

HORIZON MAC-8 reports a paper jam. What could that be?

For one of our customers this was recently due to the defective seesaw. This is a spare part which is unfortunately no longer manufactured. The HORIZON MAC-8 is a bit older model – but still generally reliable.

We simply recreated the missing spare part and the tower is running again.

If you have such a special case and need support, please let us know.

You can find available spare parts from Horizon in the Horizon GmbH webshop. Some parts have to come from Japan, which of course takes a little longer.

HORIZON SPF-20 bookletmaker

Brochure remains under stitcher of HORIZON SPF-20

With my HORIZON SPF-20, the brochure remains under the stitching unit and is not transported any further.

What can that be?

There are carriers on the conveyor belt; these could have fallen off and lay on the floor of the machine.

After these are clicked back into the belt, the transport works again.

If the carriers are lost, you can order new ones in the HORIZON Onlineshop.
